A memo app where what you write is burned away when you are done with it. You burn the plank it is written on, and once it burns, nothing is left.
This app has almost no buttons. Nearly everything begins by touching the screen and waiting a moment. This page explains how.
Write a note
- Touch an empty part of the sky and wait one secondBetween two planks, above the top one, below the bottom one. Anywhere. You will feel a trembling while you wait.
- The writing window opens. WriteUp to 100 characters. You can change it as much as you like here.
- Press the small wooden plank belowThis commits it, and what you wrote becomes a plank. To stop writing, press the ✕ at the top right of the window. Touching outside the window does not discard what you are writing.
- A plank appearsThe other planks move to make room, and a new plank appears there. A moment later, lightning runs across it.
Burn a note
- Touch a plank and hold still for one secondIt begins to smolder, and the trembling grows stronger.
- Hold still for one more secondIt catches fire. From here there is no turning back.
- Wait for it to burn outThe sky darkens while it burns. The ash fades where it lies, and the remaining planks move to close the gap.
While it is still trembling, you can turn back. Lift or move your finger and the fire goes out.
When the trembling stops, you cannot. The trembling is there to tell your finger what is happening.
Reorder
Touch a plank, then first pull it a little to the left or right. The plank lifts. Keep moving it up or down and it goes there.
If you move up or down without pulling sideways first, the screen scrolls instead. And if you touch a plank and hold still, it starts to burn, so pull it sideways as soon as you touch it.
Rewrite
Double-tap a plank. The writing window opens with the current text in it. Change it and commit, and the plank is rewritten.
To stop rewriting, press the ✕ at the top right of the window. The plank stays as it was.
The wood chips at the bottom
They count the planks hidden below the screen, one chip for each plank. Beyond 13, a triangle pointing right appears at the end to show there are more.
Watch how it works
When the app opens, a small cloud drifts down at the top right. Touch it to open a guide with a short video.
The cloud usually stays out of sight above the screen. Pull the screen down and it appears at any time.
Questions
- Can I get a burned note back?
- No. There is no way to restore it. This is not a bug; it is how the app is meant to work. It is a place for things you are finished with, so what is gone is really gone.
- What if I am about to burn something by mistake?
- Lift or move your finger while it is still trembling, and the fire goes out. That is why it takes two seconds to catch fire.
- There is no sound.
- There are no sound effects. This is something you may open in front of other people, so it stays silent. Everything you feel comes through vibration.
- I do not feel any vibration.
- Check that Settings → Sounds & Haptics → System Haptics is on. Low Power Mode and some Focus modes can also reduce vibration.
- Where is what I write stored?
- Only on your iPhone. Nothing is sent anywhere. No one, including me, can see it. See the Privacy Policy for details.
- Can I see a history of finished notes?
- No history is kept. There is no record of what was burned, or when.
- Can I use it on iPad?
- It is made for iPhone. It installs on iPad but runs in iPhone compatibility mode, and iPad has no haptic engine, so the trembling at the heart of this app does not work there.
- Which versions of iOS are supported?
- iOS 18.0 or later.
